Mission & History
Who We Are
The Trichotillomania Learning Center is a nationally-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to improve the quality of life of children, adolescents and adults with trichotillomania and related body-focused repetitive behaviors such as skin picking. TLC works to raise awareness of these disorders, promote research and treatment advances, and to provide information and support to sufferers and their families.
What We Do
Compulsive hair pulling and skin picking are disorders that cause millions of people to live in shame and isolation. TLC transforms the lives of sufferers and their families by providing hope, support, and recovery.
Our Founder and Scientific Advisory Board
Founded by Christina Pearson in 1991, TLC is a grassroots organization largely run and supported by people with trichotillomania and skin picking. It is funded through memberships, publication sales, and donations. TLC has convened a Scientific Advisory Board (Link to SAB) composed of leading researchers and clinicians in the United States and beyond, which meets regularly to share information and propose research strategies.
