A gift of $2,000 will help defray the cost of purchasing mailing lists and mailingl information on TLC’s calls for proposals.

In Touch
IN Touch is the quarterly publication of the Trichotillomania Learning Center and has long been the backbone of our community-building work. Each newsletter reaches our 2,000 members with personal essays, articles by treatment providers, research updates, and information about local and national TTM-related events.
Each gift of $3,500 will enable TLC to print and distribute one newsletter.
RESEARCHTLC Field Trial and Genetics Consortium Project
The TLC Scientific Advisory Board has determined that the best avenue for significantly advancing understanding of TTM and related BFRB disorders is to clinically validate the information gathered by the Trichotillomania Impact Project (TIP), and simultaneously create a genetics repository of well-phenotyped blood samples that researchers worldwide can study. To achieve this goal, TLC is leading a collaboration of researchers across six major academic centers over five years. Thanks to TLC donor funding, the Pilot Project was initiated in February 2007 at Harvard to develop the model for the larger multi-site study. The results of this project and the existence of the DNA biobank will provide a platform that will significantly enhance opportunities for future TTM research.
A gift of $200,000 will fund one study site for one year of the project.
A gift of $1,000,000 will fund six study sites for one year, or one site for five years.
A gift of $6,000,000 will fund the entire five year project, setting up a genetics repository
of 2,000 well-phenotyped samples and will clinically validate the TIP findings.

TLC Research Grants
Through donor support, TLC has established a Research Fund to support research into the causes of, and treatment for, trichotillomania and related disorders. TLC awards $10,000-20,000 annually to support research in this field. This support has been vital in encouraging new researchers and supporting small-scale pilot studies. But there are many more talented researchers that would do brilliant work in this area if greater funds were available to support them. Even modest projects can be seminal in laying the groundwork that can lead to major breakthroughs.
An annual gift of $10,000 - $50,000 will enable us to fund modest research studies on trichotillomania.

If you are interested in funding larger scale research projects, please contact us to discuss areas of need.

Scientific Advisory Board Meeting
The TLC Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) is comprised of the field’s leading researchers and clinicians. The SAB aids TLC in its mission to provide the most up-to-date and accurate information about TTM and related disorders. The SAB also works to foster research into the causes, prevention, and treatment of these disorders and to improve understanding and awareness in the medical and therapeutic communities. In touch throughout the year by phone and email, the SAB members meet once annually to report on progress, evaluate TLC funded research grants, and to plan future projects.
A gift of $5,000 will underwrite the expense of one Annual Scientific Advisory Board Meeting.
