Training in the Treatment of Body Focused Repetitive Behaviors

A Continuing Education Program for Licensed Clinicians
Up to 16 Continuing Education Credits and Contact Hours Available

Each year in October, TLC, along with Dr. Charles Mansueto of the Behavior Therapy Center of Greater Washington, host a three day intensive training weekend facilitated by leading experts in the field. The Professional Training Institute (PTI) is designed to provide health care professionals with practical training in current cognitive-behavioral treatment approaches for trichotillomania (TTM) and related body-focused repetitive behavior (BFRB) problems such as skin picking.

The simple truth is that not enough professionals are well-trained in effective treatment strategies for these problems. Most sufferers do not have easy access to a knowledgeable treatment provider in their community. This needs to change.

About the Training

Attendees receive hands-on training in the practical treatment of trichotillomania and related body focused repetitive disorders, such as skin picking and nail biting. Didactic instruction, case consultation, and experiential learning will be utilized to achieve training goals. By completing the Institute, participants will acquire up-to-date, clinically relevant information about these problems and the empirically supported treatments available to address them. Such training heightens provider awareness of the impact on those experiencing BFRBs, thereby enhancing empathy and concern for sufferers. It is the hope of all involved with TLC that this Institute, and others that follow, will exponentially increase the number of providers for persons with BFRBs, an historically underserved population. At the end of the weekend, a certificate of completion will be awarded to trainees. Follow up phone consultations will be available. TLC will promote trainees who complete the program as graduates of the Professional Training Institute on their referral list.

The Behavior Therapy Center

The Behavior Therapy Center is approved by the American Psychological Association to offer continuing education for psychologists. The Behavior Therapy Center maintains responsibility for the portions of the program offering continuing education. For LPCs and LCSWs, these credits should meet your licensing Board requirements.
