Welcome

Remember when you first reached out to TLC? What were you looking for?

The primary reason someone contacts us, is to locate a knowledgeable treatment provider. Nearby, not a 5 hour drive away.

The good news is  - there IS effective treatment. Unfortunately, it is not available in most areas of the country.

With your help, we can change this.

Under the guidance of Charles S. Mansueto, Ph.D., (one of the leading cognitive behavioral therapists in the world), TLC's Professional Education Committee has developed an intensive 3-day Professional Training Institute, based on proven cognitive behavioral strategies for hair pulling and skin picking.  Each year we train 10-30 interested therapeutic professionals.

At this rate it will take YEARS to have knowledgeable, trained therapists available across the country...

So: We need to bring the training to them!

And with your financial support, we can do just that.

We have effective treatment.

Let us make this clear
. We just need to make it readily available across the country, and around the world.

This October, the next Professional Training Institute will be filmed for DVD, with every aspect of treatment covered in depth. From this, a treatment manual will be developed along with additional reference materials and CDs.

This multi-media training module will become a powerful educational tool, complete with Continuing Education Credits and follow-up supervision available. But it is up to us - the TTM community - to make this training accessible to therapists everywhere.

YES! I want to Donate now to expand treatment resources!

This Project will cost $30,000 from start to finish, and already supporters have donated $13,000 toward this very worthy cause. Now we are reaching out to you.

Won't you please help us raise the additional $17,000 needed by making a donation today?

PLEASE DONATE NOW!

Treating Trichotillomania: Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for Hairpulling and Related Problems

Treating Trichotillomania carefully defines TTM, differentiating the disorder from other conditions such as OCD, reviewing the varied clinical forms it can take, and setting out its diagnostic criteria. Treatment chapters are not one-size-fits-all, but offer an evidence-based framework to help practitioners in designing the most appropriate course of treatment across the developmental spectrum, from toddlers to elders.

The authors give the reader:
- Comprehensive discussion of assessment and treatment methods. - Key elements of treatment, including awareness training, habit reversal, and maintenance techniques. - Helpful ideas for treating clients with other disorders in addition to TTM. - "What Do We Need to Know?" chapter, addressing clients and families frequently asked questions. - Adjunctive cognitive-behavioral strategies, including family and group interventions. - Resources for clinicians, clients, and families.

While not a new book, TLC is proud to offer Dr. Grossbart's excellent book through our website. If you have brought your persistent eczema, your stubborn warts, your psoriasis or other distressing skin ailment, or even your recurrent herpes to specialists and superspecialists, and if all the creams, lotions, and medications have failed to help, you must wonder if there is something else -- and ardently hope that there is. This is exactly what Drs. Grossbart and Sherman have addressed in Skin Deep: A Mind/Body Program for Healthy Skin.
