What The Events Are and How You Can Take Part

Following are events you can do in your own community that will raise awareness about trich. For each event, TLC will provide you with how-to materials, support, and ideas; you provide the willingness to talk about trich, and possibly some minimal funds, depending on the event. Together we’ll break the silence and shame that is trich’s greatest burden!

Hands-Down-a-Thon

Like a jog-a-thon or read-a-thon, the Hands-Down-a-Thon is a sponsorship event designed especially for people with trich. You commit to using the behavioral change websites StopPulling.com or StopPicking.com for two months, and you ask your friends and family to sponsor you with a pledge to TLC. In return, you will receive your second month absolutely free on StopPulling.com or StopPicking.com, the leading online behavior management sites for trich and skin-picking.

These are very challenging – and very rewarding – behavior change programs, and many TLC members have seen positive changes in their behaviors as a result of their participation in StopPulling.com and StopPicking.com. So TLC is partnering with these websites in the 2008 Hands-Down-a-Thon to raise funds for TLC.) Read More...

Screening of Bad Hair Life
Bad Hair Life is a compelling one-hour documentary about living with trich. To host a screening, simply arrange for a screening room -- at your church, community center, coffee shop, or work place – and TLC will send you a loaner DVD (unless you would like to purchase one), templates of an invitation you send out, and suggested talking points for a discussion to follow the movie. Once you’ve scheduled your screening, contact TLC to be added to our schedule of national event. Read more...

School Presentations
If you have a child with trich or want to reach out to children with trich, this is the project for you! Talk to the school to arrange a speaking engagement. TLC will send you a copy of Straight from the Heart, a 12-minute DVD about kids with trich, talking points for leading a discussion and answering questions, and educational brochures and posters to share. You will be teaching the next generation what trich is (and is NOT) and how to help someone who has trich. The same talk can be given to community groups (fraternal orders, church groups, book clubs, etc.), if that interests you. Read More...

Recruit Salons for TLC Referral Lists

Help build a nationwide network of trich-friendly hair salons and cosmetologists by letting your local salons know about our special offer during NTAW, when they get 6 months of free professional membership simply by educating themselves and their clients about trich. Read More...

Hang posters, mail brochures to local schools, cosmetologists, dermatologists, therapists, etc.

These are particularly good projects for people who are not "out" about their trich, but still want to participate in NTAW! Download the About Trichotillomania Brochure or the About Compulsive Skin Picking Brochure as well as the NTAW Posters.

Media Outreach
TLC can also help you contact local and national media, both about events you are hosting and about All Join Hands in general. We have an extensive database of publications which we can share with you regarding your region, and we have sample press releases and press kits we can provide you. Contact the TLC office at 831-457-1004 for further details.
